Benefits of UltraTouch

Employing the latest piezoelectric sensor design with sophisticated algorithms,
UltraTouch augments traditional projected capacitive touch to give new levels of performance.

Advantages of UltraTouch

Bringing new capabilities and exciting new user experiences to smart devices

Rain Insensitive icon

Rain Insensitive

Using your device in the rain while the screen is wet has always been a frustrating problem because it usually never works right the first time. With UltraTouch, this is no longer an issue.

Underwater icon

Underwater

With all the devices becoming water-resistant these days, wouldn't it make sense you could actually use the touch screen when underwater or other harsh environments? Now you can.

Glove Capable icon

Glove Capable

Keep your gloves on during a cold day out running, or when driving your car. Or if you're a doctor or nurse operating life-saving equipment in a sterile environment. Where ever you need gloves, UltraTouch is ready.

Haptics-Compatible icon

Haptics-Compatible

UltraTouch can be used with all the haptic actuators in mainstream use, such as LRA and ERM. Directional, localized haptics is possible, allowing the touch screen to vibrate where your fingers are.

Buttonless icon

Buttonless

UltraTouch is on the leading edge of modern smartphone and automotive design, by enabling the replacement of physical mechanical buttons, offering sleek and eye-catching forms. UltraTouch can work under glass, metal or plastic layers.

Stylus Friendly icon

Stylus Friendly

The UltraTouch solution can be used with a fine-tipped passive stylus, providing high performance, power savings, and lower cost compared to an active stylus. (and btw, it works with an active stylus too!)

Frequently Asked Questions

UltraTouch is a next-generation touch technology and platform that takes human-machine interaction to the next level, by providing the ability to communicate with our smart devices through a more natural sense of touch.  Exemplar products are ‘true touch’ screens and smart surfaces.

UltraTouch is transparent and flexible, wide area and solid state, and thinner than a human hair. As a passive layer it is inherently low-power.

UltraTouch determines the XY location and force (Z) applied in real time and reports this three-co-ordinate XYZ information to the host device.

UltraTouch can be configured to report the location and force applied by up to ten fingers simultaneously.

UltraTouch is agnostic to the size of the screen or smart surface, from a smart watch to a huge 140” conference-room size display.

UltraTouch can be configured to work with a PCAP controller or as a touch-only input device and even switch between these modes. For example, a smart phone architect might prefer to use PCAP as the default method of determining finger location with UltraTouch automatically taking over this function if it detects the PCAP controller is encountering difficulty due to water on the screen.

UltraTouch detects the location and force applied by fingers, so the cover material on the touch sensor can be glass, polymer, metal or ceramic.

UltraTouch is totally solid state and has no moving parts. It can be used in automotive interiors and harsh environments.

Absolutely. For a touch sensation to seem natural, haptic feedback must be near instantaneous. UltraTouch can provide a direct signal to trigger haptic systems, thus avoiding the delay of the touch event information having to go through the host device.

CTT can provide engineer training and a CAD library containing the requisite modules to enable rapid integration of UltraTouch into your design workflow.

UltraTouch is a low-cost solution designed to be adopted into cost-competitive products and mass markets, from consumer electronics to automotive.
